Anxiety - Who Gets It And How Many Percent Of The Population

All people experience the normal feeling of anxiety when faced with danger, stress or threats and it is a good thing in this manner. Anxiety is a great natural, human instinct to a point to help you get out of the way of present danger, or to motivate you to do your best in school, work, or sporting activities. The problem with anxiety is that most people that develop the disorder do not know how to control and handle their lives in order not to let the anxiety levels escalate. When you let the levels escalate then you allow anxiety to cause problems that interferes with your normal daily routine. The response to these problems or stresses causes adrenalin to produce at higher levels and if the person cannot fight or flee this situation with the proper techniques then the anxiety attack will occur. The “anxiety attack” mode needs to be turned OFF as soon as possible. The individual is the one that has the option to turn the mode ON or OFF. If they do not turn the “anxiety attack” mode OFF then it will continue to build and grow into a dynamic anxiety attack or panic attack. This is really hard for some individuals to realize that the decision is theirs to make, they have to take control of their thoughts, fears, worries, etc and turn them off, no one else can do this for them.

The high levels of anxiety are caused from unreal fear and worry but this is very common. The estimated number of the United States population that is affected by anxiety disorders is about 16% – 20%. This is of all ages, backgrounds, races with no exceptions. Women tend to have more problems with anxiety than men or rather tend to report these issues more than men. There are over nineteen million American adults that are affected by this life changing illness, anxiety. This is not calculating the children and teens that have developed an anxiety disorder also.

These people who develop high levels of anxiety above normal are those who have inherited it, become anxious very easily, and a person with high trait anxiety is very vulnerable to developing anxiety in stressful situations. These people that have developed an anxiety disorder have not learned how to handle stress and upcoming daily crisis in the proper manner. Those that are not able to manage their anger in the right manner also develop higher levels of anxiety because of suppressing this anger and letting it escalate inside to develop anxiety and many other problems, mental and physical.
